LOOK AT HER, DROOLING OVER THAT MUSCLEBOUND POET. I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE'S ATTRACTED TO SOMEONE WHO MISUSES 'LAY' FOR LIE' IN AN EROTIC POEM, FOR GODSAKES.

YOU WERE JUST GREAT, BEATRICE. I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T WIN.

EXACTLY WHAT AN APT METAPHOR FOR THE INCREASING VULNERABILITY OF LIFE UNDER THE GINGRICHDOLE CONGRESS!

AS THE PROTECTIVE GEAR OF MEDICAID, WELFARE, AND THE EARNED-INCOME TAX CREDIT IS STRIPPED AWAY TO BUY TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH, THE LOOSE GRAVEL ON THE BIKE PATH OF LIFE BECOMES EVER MORE PERILOUS FOR THE POOR.

AND WHAT ABOUT HER TRENCHANT TAKE ON THE DISNEY-ABC AND TIME WARNER-TURNER BROADCASTING MERGERS, AND THE DANGER THAT SUCH MEDIA MONOPOLIES POSE TO THE FREE FLOW OF INFORMATION IN OUR SOCIETY...

"WE WALKED OUT OF POCAHONTAS. WENT HOME, AND WATCHED CNN. THERE WAS NOTHING HAPPENING ANYWHERE." WOMAN'S A GENIUS.

HORMONAL IMBALANCE DUE TO PROLONGED SEXUAL INACTIVITY AND AFFECTING THE JUDGMENT. IT'S OUT OF OUR HANDS.

Nov. 6, 1984: West Hollywood, Calif., incorporates as a new city, and Valerie Terrigno becomes the nation's first openly lesbian mayor. With Terrigno plus two gay men on the 5-member city council, "Boys Town" was the first U.S. city to have an openly gay majority on its governing body.

Flowers of Evil?

On Nov. 8, 1974, NBC aired a Policewoman episode titled "Flowers of Evil, featuring three stereotyped lesbians as murderers. The show was offensive enough in itself; NBC further outraged lesbian and gay activists when

it agreed to edit out the offensive references, then reneged on that promise and moved the airing up a week in an effort to short-circuit the protests that had been planned.
